I've Been Quiet For Too Long!

So I haven't posted anything for more than a year. My intent for this blog was to give myself a place to speak my mind and to be honest I've had so much to deal with that I just haven't given it much thought. As I have explained in previous posts I was permanently disabled from injuries that I sustained while working as a firefighter/EMT and have been dealing with it ever since. Those injuries happened over 5 1/2 years ago now and it's been a long hard road. So I apologize for not posting much.

I have learned a lot about myself since the accident. I don't recommend becoming disabled in order to learn about yourself though. I do think that there are better ways to do that. I have learned that depression can come and go and that it takes a lot of work to deal with. I've also learned without question that I am one stubborn man and that if focused that stubbornness can be a tool that I can use to fight the pain and depression. I also know what I stand for and what I believe and I refuse to compromise my principals, beliefs or rights simply because someone else thinks I should.

As an example I have had to fight with the high school that my children attend every year about something. I will not allow my or my children's principals, beliefs or rights to be walked on because they think they can. This is issue with the schools has really got me upset because the students are always the ones who suffer until the issues are resolved. I am currently trying to get resolution for another issue right now. If I do not get an acceptable resolution within a day or so I have decided to detail all of the issue so as to provide the information to other parents. Our children should not have to pay the price for someone's lack of knowledge of the law.

I have decided that I will no longer be quiet on any matters anymore. We live once and have to try to do it right and do the best we can for not only our own children but, for all of the children out there. It's time we all step up make the schools answer to us as parents. The schools like to conveniently forget that the only authority they have over our children is what we as parents allow them. We can remove our children from school at any time under the law. We as parents have the power not the school administration. It seems that over the years parents have been traditionally conditioned to believe that the school holds all of the power, however that is simply not true. As a parent under the law the power is yours. If you're not sure go read the laws for yourself. You'll find them very enlightening and you'll also find that most school administrators and even school board members don't know the laws. They all operate on assumed authority and they love to quote polices. The truth is however that policies are not law and not enforceable as a replacement for the law. If you've had much dealings with schools I'm sure that you'd have noticed that the school administration will quote a policy to you but, then turn around and violate that policy themselves. The hypocrisy drives me insane and I refuse to put up with it anymore.

Parents please read the laws and become familiar with them. Know your rights and how to exercise them so that we can help and protect our children.
